Zombie Score Pattern
The Compass
You know where the poles are and you navigate between them. That's not the finish line — it's the starting point for your next season.
What is The Compass?
The Compass is one of nine patterns in the Zombie Score, a free assessment that maps how you navigate three tensions: Presence vs Pace, Balcony vs Dance Floor, and Margin vs Momentum. This pattern sits near the center of all three tensions rather than leaning toward any pole.
- Presence ↔ Pace
- Balanced
- Balcony ↔ Dance Floor
- Balanced
- Margin ↔ Momentum
- Balanced
What The Compass gives you
Your shape is relatively balanced across all three tensions. That doesn't mean you're perfect — it means you're not dramatically over-indexed on any one pole. You're navigating the trade-offs with some awareness, moving between the balcony and the dance floor, between presence and pace, between margin and momentum. You're oriented. You know where the extremes are, and you're steering between them.
The trade-off of The Compass
Balance can be its own trap. When everything is moderate, nothing is extraordinary. The question isn't whether your shape is even — it's whether it's chosen. Are you balanced because you've deliberately tended each tension? Or because you haven't committed deeply enough to anything to create a real lean? A compass that never points strongly in any direction isn't balanced — it's demagnetized.
Understanding this pattern
You are The Compass — and that means something specific.
A compass doesn't point to the destination. It shows you where the poles are so you can choose your own direction. That's your shape: you know where presence lives and where pace lives. You can feel the difference between the balcony and the dance floor. You understand margin and momentum as trade-offs, not enemies.
The season question
Your tensions are in rhythm. But is it the rhythm you chose — or the one you defaulted to?
The three tensions behind this pattern
Presence ↔ Pace
Being here vs. Building something. The moment in front of you vs. the momentum underneath you.
Balcony ↔ Dance Floor
Seeing the system from above vs. Feeling it from inside. The aerial view vs. the lived experience.
Margin ↔ Momentum
Space for surprise vs. The engine that compounds. The garden vs. the treadmill when it's working.
Is The Compass your pattern?
Reading about a pattern is not the same as seeing your own shape. The assessment is 18 questions, takes about 4 minutes, and needs no account.
